Brazilian football legend and a FIFA World Cup winner Pele criticised Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi as being a footballer who has ‘only one skill’ as in fact placed himself and Argentine great Diego Maradona above Messi when asked about comparisons. Messi is arguably considered as the finest in modern-era football. Amid individual records that includes goals galore and five Ballon d’Or awards, Messi has helped his club win countless record. However, Pele reckons him to be a one-dimensional player and one-footed player when asked about comparisons between the 31-year-old and the legends of the past.

“How can you make a comparison between a guy who heads the ball well, shoots with the left, shoots with the right and another who only shoots with one leg, only has one skill and doesn’t head the ball well?” asked three-time World Cup winning legend in an interview with Folha de S.Paulo newspaper. “How can you compare? To compare with Pele, it has to be someone who shoots well with the left, shoots well with the right, and scores headers.”
